As a “bonus feature” for some of my books, I record “Author Commentary Tracks” which are designed to enhance the literary experience for the discriminating reader.
Common features of the Commentary Tracks are discussions about the origin of the story, insights on the characters, thoughts about the writing process, changes that have been made along the revision path, and explaining the inside jokes in my writing. (And, believe me, there are a lot of inside jokes).
How you connect the Commentary Track to the book is up to you. You might want to read the entire book first, then go back and re-read chapters after listening to the commentary for them. You might want to listen to each chapter’s commentary after reading the chapter, before moving on to the next. You might just want to sample the commentary for a particular chapter that raises questions or brings about a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment. Or any other possible way you can think of. Each chapter’s commentary will only refer to that chapter and past chapters; there will be no spoilers for what comes next, so feel free to come and go as you wish without having what comes next ruined for you.
You do not have to listen to the Commentary Tracks to enjoy the books. But you do have to enjoy the books to listen to the Commentary Tracks. Otherwise, what’s the point?
